U.S. Government Crypto Wallets Transfer Nearly $1B of Bitcoin Seized From Bitfinex Hacker – In a recent development, crypto wallets under U.S. government control, which were holding bitcoin seized from the infamous Bitfinex hack, have suddenly sprung to life. These wallets, previously dormant, have now transferred nearly $1 billion worth of bitcoin to undisclosed addresses within a short span of less than two hours.

The reasons behind these significant transactions remain shrouded in mystery, as the U.S. government has yet to provide any official comment or clarification. The sudden activity in these wallets has raised eyebrows within the crypto community, prompting speculation and intrigue.

One of the wallets, identified by blockchain-data firm Arkham Intelligence as containing seized Bitfinex hacker funds on behalf of the government, made its move by initially transferring 1 BTC. This was followed by the remaining 2,817 BTC, totaling an estimated $173 million. Subsequently, another wallet, holding approximately 12,300 BTC, orchestrated transfers totaling around $750 million. Together, these transactions amounted to nearly $923 million worth of bitcoin being moved from the two wallets.

The timing of these transfers coincided with a volatile day in the cryptocurrency market, where bitcoin’s price experienced significant fluctuations. Initially surging past the $60,000 mark for the first time since November 2021, the price then saw a sudden drop to just above $59,000. As of the latest updates, bitcoin was trading slightly above $60,000.

Interestingly, another U.S. government-controlled wallet is reported to be holding a substantial amount of seized Bitfinex hacker funds, containing around 94,600 BTC. This stash is currently valued at approximately $5.79 billion, based on the prevailing market price of bitcoin.

The Bitfinex hack itself was a watershed moment in the history of cryptocurrency, garnering widespread attention due to its scale and impact. Notably, individuals like Heather “Razzlekhan” Morgan and Ilya Lichtenstein were implicated in the case. In a significant move, the U.S. government seized about 95,000 stolen bitcoin from crypto wallets associated with the defendants, valued at approximately $3.6 billion at the time of the seizure.

Overall, the sudden activity in these U.S. government-controlled wallets and the subsequent transfer of substantial sums of bitcoin have added a new layer of intrigue to the ongoing saga surrounding the Bitfinex hack and its aftermath.
